Open Play at Plummer Family Park
The OMG outdoor pickleball season runs April 1 through October 31, with regularly scheduled open play designed for players of all skill levels.
Morning Open Play
Monday, Wednesday & Friday
7:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Whether you're looking for competitive games, exercise, or simply a chance to meet other players, morning open play is a great way to get on the courts.
How Open Play Works
To help keep games moving and ensure everyone gets plenty of court time, OMG uses a simple rotation system based on how many players are waiting.
When 3 to 10 Players Are Waiting
- The losing team comes off the court.
- Winning players may stay unless they have already played two consecutive games.
- Players who have won two straight games rotate out to give others an opportunity to play.
When 11 or More Players Are Waiting
- All four players leave the court after each game.
- Four new players rotate onto the court for the next game.
Paddle Rack System
Our paddle racks make it easy to organize who's up next without needing a sign-up sheet.
Here's how they work:
- Place your paddle in the rack, starting from the left side.
- When a court becomes available, the next four paddles in line go onto the court.
- After players head onto the court, move the yellow ball to the next paddle position to mark who's up next.
- When the yellow ball reaches the end of the rack, slide it back to the far left and continue the rotation.
- If two paddle racks are being used, fill the left rack first, then continue onto the right rack before resetting both yellow balls back to the left.
A Few Tips
- Introduce yourself and be welcoming to new players.
- Call scores clearly and help newer players with scoring if needed.
- Rotate promptly after games so everyone gets maximum court time.
- Most importantly, have fun and help make Plummer Family Park a great place to play pickleball!
